Modernization of the Veterinarians Act - An Update

The College of Veterinarians of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians have presented the provincial government with 19 proposed recommendations for modernizing the Veterinarians Act. Jan Robinson, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer with the College; Dr. Steven Jacobs, President of the College; and Registered Veterinary Technician Damon Thompson, President of the OAVT, discuss the recommendations and the ongoing work to modernize the legislation.

The Evolving Scope of Practice of Veterinary Medicine in Ontario

Jan Robinson, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer at the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and Elise Wickett, RVT and Past President of the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, explain the key features of the proposed scope of practice model for the veterinary profession in Ontario. The proposed model includes a new definition of veterinary medicine; a list of authorized activities; title protection for both veterinarians and veterinary technicians; a list of exemptions; and a risk of harm clause.
